I'd better have some practises of writing in English as English A2 Exam is around the corner, the day after tomorrow, to be more precise. Honestly, I seldom speak English since I came to ACSI. Being in the Chinatown, everyone speaks Chinese to PRC scholars. Even our class teacher, E Bong, who is a English teacher herself. I am not sure whether I should continue to take A2 or drop to B. At first, I just want to have a try first. Than I got a sheer luck, getting a narrow 6 for common test. I don't know whether it is a blessing or challenge. Now, I am totally lost. EB is such a slacker who will be on MC for three out of five lessons. and even in the only two left, we will gossip all the way through. I don't know whether I have achieved anything during this year's study. On the other hand, the reason for me not willing to go to English B class is because English B is even easier than O level. Most people (China ppl) can get a seven easily. Yeah, a word comes to my mind: dilemma. What should I do? What should I do if I do well this time? And what should I do then if I screw-up? Totally clueless now. I really think it is damn important to pluck up my English. But then I m not sure if EB is able to help me. maybe I will be more self motivated if I m in the A2 class. but B is so easy and which idiot does not want a sure 7 for his final grade? BUT! But it seems that IB pays more attention to our HL subjects. So SL is not that important? Errrr? Moreover, A2 is good for my SAT, er? A2 is good for my universitiy life,is it? Will it be beneficial for my Uni admission then? Aiyoyo. I read ChenDavid's blog yesterday. there s a "response"----an English compo I m afraid. he was trying to talk about his opinions on sth. he claimed that he had spent 3 hrs on it. I wonder how long he had spent on flipping through the dictionary, or clicking jinshanciba. that is e most chim text i ve ever read. hence i think maybe i really should admit that language can affect ppl's reasoning and emotion. one cannot use english to express his chinese emo. even shakespeare cant write such profound piece!

Prepare my mind in English
NO More Slacking, Start Doing Something!
pi sent me senior junbo's blog. n i just knew he couldnt make it to the us. omg, i thought he was perfect though. he has so much ec... i can see what the narrow chance i stand now. sad.
he is in nus. n not seems to be happy.
here it goes:
......Ever since i stepped into the NUS campus, I started to feel a great sense of inferiority and the undescribable resistance to be there. ... ...It seems that I have lost my goals and there is nothing for me to fight for! ......
I start to think seriously about my future. Am I going to be just an ordinary engineer working dirt hard to get 3K or 5K a month and worrying about bread and butter? Or am I going to be an ordinary person with simple and contented life? Or am i going to make a difference and rise above the ordinary? The answer is rather clear! Having been growing up under high expections and praises all the time, I have few options but to show others that I am capabable of achieving more.
I need to wake up from my dreams and start something! I shall keep on reminding myself that I am a NUS student, same as those from poly and other JCs. And I am going to make the best out of my days in NUS. .......
n here s pp 's comment:
exactly the same things happened to me after i left rj... i had my fondest memories there and almost everything related to Njc saddens my heart and triggers my cynicism. and the worst thing that could ever happen is to suddenly lose the goals and motivations...
what his friends said:
another one:

Fall in love with S11
Recently, I fall in love with S11.
The differences between rich and poor.
do i want to marry sb rich n become a taitai? nope!
i think we'd better work together.

TOK presentation
!!!Painstakingly, i exerted my utmost effort, working my heart out!!!
Finally I have finished TOK. And it can be considered as satisfactory. The only worry is that the presentation might be overtime. But I have spent so much time on it that every slide has my blood on it. I just cant delete any of them. So die die must rascally and shamelessly finish the whole thing!
Good news! Tiger airline has route to Xiamen! Everyday has a flight and the schedule is nice. But for Nov holiday I still fly with xiamen airline as I paid 200 bucks to book the ticket already.

good or no good
first of all the rankings, especially london times one which placed NUS at 18th and 22th for the past 2 years, are crap. the ranking methodology is largely based on the % international students and strength of the faculty (e.g. research citations). % international students is not exactly a gd guage of educational quality or even the social exposure a student would get at the school... like, Harvard has say 10% international students and NUS has 20%, does that make NUS any better than Harvard? Besides, that 20% is predominantly made up of students from countries in the region, like China, India and Indonesia. Not much of diversity to speak of really. As for the faculty, I am rather suprised that NUS faculty is considerably active in the academic arena. But then again, being the only comprehensive university in Singapore, most of the academic research done in Singapore must be in some ways affiliated to the NUS professors, so there. Besides, research is one thing, teaching is another. The way of teaching, or at least I imagine to be so, is still very much of a one-way thing. The quality of the students is perhaps another problem. Every year, most of the brighest in the nation end up flying to UK, US and lately, China, which leaves NUS - arguably the best university in Singapore - with hardly any share of the nation's top students (less Medicine students I guess). Perhaps the worst thing is the rigidity in curriculum. Dual degree or rather, double majors across different faculties, is virtually impossible except for options offered by the university. i can only think of econs + law and physics and material engineering, then again u need 5 freaking years to complete them. The dual degree programs take in maybe 10 to 20 students a year - the chances of entry are hardly on my side. And of course, no matter how good NUS (or NTU or SMU for that matter) may be, the pasture always seems greener on the other side!
there is nothing about NUS that i absolutely cannot tolerate - i just want a different experience. that said, i don't think NUS will shortchange anyone in terms of academics at the undergraduate level at least.
End of holiday
I m exhausted. The September holiday has come to the end. I have not done anything useful until now. Math portfolio still has one question unfinished and TOK discussion is postponed again. I m just complaining here. I think hopefully I can finish the maths thing today. Unlikely to have any TOK done by today as I think xyue is also the kind of slacker.
I chatted with chentangent on QQ last night. I sent him our last math port, the fish population series and sequence one. He said he had to "look at me with new eyes". He couldn’t understand most of it. And I found out that in china’s high sch they haven’t learnt cubic equation or matrix which we have studied in secondary school already. Chentangent is learning matrix by himself at the moment as it is the topic they need to know in the second year of their university. Although I know that what we have learnt in Singapore are those extremely basic stuffs but I still can’t help to feel cocky and feel like showing off something…
Chentangent is in Fujianyida. So is Yexiao. I envy them. The dream of becoming a doctor will never come true in the rest of my life. But I will still have a chance if I go back now and sit for Gaokao one or two years later. But it is not worthy and MMao always says that being a doctor in china is miserable. Half of her university school-mates (fifty out of one hundred) have left for the US. They got in the medical school in America and started all over. But I am still very doubtful how could they manage to raise their school fees and daily allowance. They couldn’t be rich enough and having part time job won’t earn much no matter how hard they worked. It is medical school man! All these remain mysterious. i guess the competition 30years ago is not as tough as now. Maybe I can talk to some of my mum’s friends in the USA later to find out.

Words to remember
An email forwarded to me by dongyidian. Some messages to MM. These are my favourate.

A good day
Today is a happy day. Fruitful, I did not study at all. But I book the air ticket. The fare is quite acceptable as finally xiamen air line has student tickets and the flights are scheduled to the days instead of leaving and arriving in the middle of the night. In addition, I bought a “die biang” (fried oyster and pork I supposed). It tastes nice but I just wonder it would be better if they put less meat. And we met a couple in Chinatown. Xwy and Jjd. Xie and Tang are good friends in rj and jia is my current classmate. We met twice on the road. Then we met again in a Lanzhou Ramen store. At first, Tang and I decided to go to this store but we want to see some other shops first. But after coming back, we saw two of them sitting inside. Omg, that is purely coincident! Thus why we did not have Lanzhou ramen today.
English matters
Now, it is 1:21 in the middle of the night. I m not burning the midnight oil as I slept quite a lot in the day. Today is another fruitless day for me as I only read a bit of the animal farm guide book. About half of the book. And I have read the lord of the flies. (I have reached a point that I decided not to read on anymore to leave some as time killer at school when there is recess or free period without teachers.) I used to read the lord of the flies. That was after my sec 3 final year exam. I swore that if I didn’t finish the book within maybe five days I would fail my English and I couldn’t go back early. I finished reading then. Unfortunately, I really did not understand a single thing except that I was aware about the book’s content was about a group of boys isolated on an island, killing one another. I always thought that the boys were all dead. But indeed, the got rescued. I m so sorry about this. The same thing happens on my experience when I read the English teacher and a miserable world. Actually, all these classics are wonderful books but I was too stupid to appreciate them.
A quote from the cover of my BARRON’s 3500 SAT WORDS LIST notebook: Althought the distance between will space out us, may we remrmber our true friendship and blessing. Every time I see the notebook, this ridiculous sentence should remind me of the importance of speaking good English’s importance.
Yeah, I watched a documentary on Jackie Chan yesterday. And I found out that he is really a unlearned person who only received his education in an Chinese traditional opera and acrobatic school. His English is extremely lousy. It is very hard to imagine that such a super star who has a great impact on Hollywood has such bad standard in English speaking. I think he makes 2 mistakes for every 5 words he speaks. When he is being interviewed, he answers the questions with dramatically huge body gestures. He is able to convey his ideas to the audiences through simple worlds and actions. Anyway, I think he is forgivable. He is always on a Chinese route that project the image of a typical Chinese man to the west. Hence it is normal for a Chinese not knowing English. The Americans should not be too critical about this. And he did not have the chance to have proper education. Very likely that he learnt English all by himself in some Chinatown in Australia. Jackie Chan is an exemption. However, for the others, good speeches can give other a good first and many many good impressions about the capabilities and characters of that person. Speaking English is a kind of basic skill for existence. Thus why I die die must improve!
Ok, I will publish this post tomorrow. Good nite!

I am who I want to be
Now, I m doing my math port. Last time, the fish population one I got 15 out of 20 ( which is below average by 0.5). I should make some improvement this time.
Listening to Faye Wong's songs at e same time. I once read a tread in RongShuXia talked abt e similarities that ppl who like Faye Wong shared. It is accurate to some extent. But some are absolutely invalid!

The torch of Hymen
Foreword
This is what Emma Ma, an exchange student fr Wuhan, gained fr her five days’ exchange experience in Singapore. I don’t want to comment any thing on this.
What are girls looking for? Yeah, 爱美之心人皆有之, and cute guys are really succulent…
Let get sth
I watched ShouShenNanNv the day b4 yesterday. And I offered my tears. I m always moved by this kinda “simple love”. The same as 1 litre of tears. I dislike those complicated plays with multi angles relationship. And ppl always confused that was it love or not and whom is ones real love and… Griskin Queen Miss LS said in her space that “her bone” was a chaos with relationships that “分分合合,乱七八糟”. I totally agree and I think she sets an excellent example herself. (Anyway, she is still someone I admire and respect as she is !!! Love doesn’t need to be dynamic or vigorous or be in love at first sight. Simplicity is the beauty.
I want him to be surefooted (is this correct?), optimistic and capable. I can set my heart at rest. I think he is reliable. I m not nervous with him. We r comfortable to be together with each other.
The Chinese Version of this post:
2007-09-01
80%to my lord。
Extraordinary post
Just realized blogger cant change the font for Chinese? I m writing again because I figured out sth thoughtful aft lunch. I think in this post I shall put all those things in.
En...First of all, some guidelines for this blog. Very likely I might keep it for a long time as it looks so nice. Hence I must treat it well. Errr, no rubbish allowed. And I shouldnt copy and paste whole chunks of stuff. If the post is in Chinese, then the language should be polished first.
Then comes some sermons. I must work hard!!! Every single test must be treated seriously as later the teachers will write me recommendation letters and give out predicted grade. If I cant be a intelligent student, at least I have to let them think that I m sort of hard working. I wont suffer any losses to fight hard. I once found that burning the midnight oil was quite a 有情调的thing. Another quote:"想要人前显贵,就得人后受罪!"
Die Die Must Mug! MUG
Now, present to you Master 鲁迅's 串串编.
I ve experienced the high sch entrance exam. I was really stressed out back then. After e exam, I really cant tell thats what kinda feeling of relief and relax when I looked at the books and papers piling up as high as myself. How did I get through all these?
O-level, sit down under cruel reality. Just let it become history, theres no use keep complaining abt it. Don't cry because it is over. Smile because it happened."
Never frown, because you never know who is falling in love with your smile.
Today is Sep 1st, some of my middle sch schoolmates have left for colleges and brand new lives. Some are packing, preparing to leave. Some have chosen not to leave. Some are forced to stay on. Wish them all the best.
Am I left behind? I have to carry on.
Because I have my dreams.
My goal, at this stage, is to become a high sch graduate that is welcomed by AOs. Quote another paragraph from CUUS then. I really wish I am able to say all these one and half years later, when I get my offer and FA from my dream sch.
It has become so long already. At frist I planned to write some more sour stuff. Now I think it is better to leave it for my next post. Coming soon: something on love and marriage.
OPENING
HEY! New Blog!
Bcz I found blogspot is quite handy n convenient. Easy to upload pic n download loads of beautiful ready-made templates from the net. n it s fast to open a page (unlike msn space which would take ages for every move. Slower than my dear pO pO KEr!) No wonder nearly all Singaporeans use blogspot... altough it seems that sometimes the site might be banned by China govt, it doesnt matter as i think i will write in eng for most of e time.
yeah, facebook. Recently, facebook, an ingenious time-killer invented by Harvardians, becomes so popular among us (ppl I know).
At 1st got an invitation fr LJ then read abt several articles n news on that. Finally, I registered. Hehe...
Does this show that I m a little bit closer to - a bit more like- errr- a US undergraduate?
Now, it is Sep holiday. My plan is to mug n mug. Wish me for e best that I can carry it out. Kay? God bless.
